After the introduction of Airbnb and other ‘non-conventional’ types of accommodation, travellers now have more choice than ever when it comes to finding a place to stay in Margaret River.
While hotels and motels have been around forever, the recent changes now mean there are many other accommodation choices, thus making it very difficult for you, the traveler, to know where to book!
So here are a few tips….
Before booking any accommodation for Margaret River, it’s important to consider a few things:
- Who are you traveling with?
- How many people?
- How long is your stay?
- Do you have a budget?
- Do you have your own transport?
- What do you want to get out of your trip?
When travelling down south with more than 4 people, it can be beneficial to book self- catered accommodation. It will generally work out cheaper as you will not have to pay for the 2nd or 3rd room that may be required for those extra bodies. Please ensure sure the accommodation is registered, legal and complies with health regulations!
In addition, if having your own space in which to cook, listen to music, play board games or even have a small party, is important, self-catering accommodation is your best option.
Booking self-catering accommodation, as the name suggests, means you will not receive a turn-down service nor have your bed made the following day. Also, while some AirBnB’s provide them, amenities should not be expected. The lack of these small but important aspects reduces the cost of your accommodation, thus often making it cheaper than a hotel. And we could all do with a little more to spend on a relaxing lunch at the region’s world- class wineries.
That said, if you are travelling alone, with a partner or friend, it can be more valuable to book a hotel as sharing 1 hotel room is usually cheaper than an entire AirBnB.
For those travelling with small children, it is often more appropriate to book a hotel and have all your needs taken care of while you focus on “kid-care”. All hotels have cots and roll aways so that you can stay in the same room as your infant or toddler. Nor will you have to cook or wash-up…just order room-service. You can even request a microwave in your room to warm-up baby’s milk if needed. Even with older kids, hotels usually have access to a baby-sitting service and playgrounds are common.
Most hotels in Margaret River are located with easy access to the beaches and local attractions such as caves, micro-breweries, wineries, restaurants, bars, shops and general exploring.
Whilst staying in a hotel, the facilities and amenities are designed to make your stay relaxing and enjoyable. Staff are but a phone call away and you can be assured they will do their best to make your stay enjoyable. Why wouldn’t they… they want you to come back for more!
But for me, without doubt the best thing about staying at a hotel is that many offer transfers to and from the wineries. This is absolutely essential if you want to avoid that awkward “designated driver” chat!
So, come on down to Margaret River! The region has so much to offer and no matter where you stay, stay happy!
